One of the first questions new patients ask is: “How long will it take to get my dentures?” The honest answer is that it varies — but here’s a realistic guide to what’s involved and how long each stage typically takes.
The Typical Denture Timeline
Appointment 1: Initial Consultation (Free)
This is where we discuss your situation, examine your mouth and existing dentures if you have them, and agree on the best approach. No impressions yet — just a conversation.
Appointment 2: Primary Impressions
We take initial impressions of your gums to create custom impression trays. These are used for the more precise impressions at the next appointment. A basic bite registration may also be taken.
Appointment 3: Final Impressions and Bite
Using the custom trays, we take final impressions and a precise record of how your jaws meet. This information is sent to the laboratory (our own on-site lab) to construct the framework for your dentures.
Appointment 4: Try-In
Before the final denture is processed, you’ll have a try-in with the teeth set in wax. This lets you and Simon check the appearance, speech and comfort before anything is finalised. Changes can be made at this stage.
Appointment 5: Fitting
Your finished dentures are fitted. Minor adjustments are often made at this appointment and a follow-up is scheduled for a week or two later to check how things are settling.
Total Timeline
From first consultation to completed dentures typically takes 6–10 weeks for a straightforward case. More complex cases — such as immediate dentures or implant-retained dentures — may take longer.
We aim to space appointments at roughly 1–2 week intervals to allow laboratory work to be completed between visits. Urgent cases can sometimes be prioritised — call us on 01793 540128 to discuss your timeline.
In some cases, yes. If you have a specific deadline — a wedding, holiday or other event — please mention this at your consultation and we will do our best to accommodate your timeline.
Most patients need 4–6 appointments from start to finish for a new complete denture. Partial dentures follow a similar process.
Adjustments after fitting are completely normal and expected. We schedule a follow-up appointment after you’ve worn your new dentures for a week or two to make any necessary tweaks.
