Christmas and the festive season bring an abundance of wonderful food — and with well-fitting dentures, there’s no reason you can’t enjoy it fully. Here are some tips to help you make the most of the celebrations.
The Christmas Dinner
The traditional Christmas dinner is actually very denture-friendly when prepared well:
- Turkey — the breast can be drier and tougher; opt for tender leg and thigh meat, or keep the breast moist with plenty of gravy
- Roast potatoes — crispy outsides can be a challenge; choose ones that are soft inside, or go for mashed
- Sprouts, parsnips, carrots — well-roasted or steamed soft vegetables are easy to eat
- Stuffing — usually soft and manageable
- Gravy — makes everything easier
- Christmas pudding — soft and very manageable
Watch Out For
- Crusty bread rolls — go for soft rolls or sourdough with a lighter crust
- Nuts — very hard and can dislodge dentures. Enjoy nut-based dishes where they’re ground or incorporated rather than whole
- Toffees and hard sweets — sticky and hard, best avoided
- Very crusty pastry on pies or tarts

Absolutely — with well-fitting dentures and a few smart choices, Christmas dinner is very manageable. Plenty of gravy, soft-cooked vegetables and moist meat make the meal easy to enjoy.
Whole nuts, hard toffees, very crusty bread and extremely hard pastry are best avoided or approached with care. Most other Christmas foods are perfectly manageable.
