An implant-retained denture still needs maintenance after fitting. The denture, retaining components and tissues around the implants each need attention. The fact that an appliance feels more secure does not make it a fit-and-forget treatment.
Understand what you have
Ask which parts you remove yourself and which are fixed in place. Keep details of the implant and attachment system with your treatment records. A removable overdenture and a fixed bridge do not have the same handling instructions.
Learn the daily cleaning
Have the team demonstrate how to clean the denture and around the attachments in your mouth. Use the recommended aids and compatible products. Do not assume that a cleanser suitable for a conventional denture is suitable for every component or lining.
Plan for component wear
Some retaining parts can wear and need maintenance. If the denture feels less secure, do not tighten or replace components yourself. The cause might involve the attachment, denture fit or another issue that needs assessment. Ask who provides maintenance and what it may cost.
Keep professional reviews
Regular review allows the dental team to assess tissue health, cleaning and mechanical function. Report bleeding, swelling, pain, discharge or movement promptly. A loose attachment is not the same as a loose implant, and you should not try to determine the difference by testing it. Confirm the services available at your provider; this general guide does not establish that every implant treatment or maintenance system is offered at Cotswold Denture Clinic.
