Can Dentures Be Relined at Home?

Talking Dentures video thumbnail: Can Dentures Be Relined at Home?

A home reline kit may look like a quick answer to a loose denture. Simon explains why a professional reline is more involved than adding material underneath it.

The position has to be right

A reline changes the fitting surface. If new material sets with the denture in the wrong position, it can alter the bite or leave the appliance distorted. A permanent material can be difficult to remove without further work.

Temporary does not mean a complete solution

Simon distinguishes removable, temporary products from permanent repair materials. Even a temporary product can make it harder to understand the original problem. Speak to the clinic before using one, particularly if the denture is painful or damaged.

Protect the denture you already have

Do not use household glue, file the fitting surface or try to build a permanent reline yourself. Keep the appliance and arrange an assessment. A professional may recommend a reline, an adjustment or replacement after looking at its condition. Preventing damage from an attempted repair can preserve more options.
