A denture is something you wear every day. Being able to talk openly with the person making and fitting it matters. At Cotswold Denture Clinic, that person is Simon Miles.
Simon is our GDC-registered Clinical Dental Technician. His career began at the laboratory bench in 1989, and today he brings that practical experience to the care of patients at our private clinic in Poulton, near Cirencester.
This is a little more about his background, how he works and what you can expect when you visit.
Where it all began
From the laboratory bench to patient care
Simon began training as a dental technician at 16, working alongside his uncle. Making dentures became his career: learning how the shape and position of teeth, the materials and the smallest finishing details affect the finished result.
In January 2000, he opened his own dental laboratory. Over the years, his experience has included small laboratory teams and larger facilities with more than 50 technicians. He also ran his own laboratory for many years.
That time spent making dentures still informs his work with patients. A conversation about a loose denture, an uncomfortable bite or the appearance of a smile can be considered alongside the technical work needed to help.

Training in Toronto
Travelling to Canada to study clinical dental technology
Simon travelled to Canada to study at George Brown College in Toronto, Canada. He later gained his UK qualification through the Royal College of Surgeons of England, qualifying as a Clinical Dental Technician in 2010.
The purpose of that trip was to develop the clinical skills needed for his qualification, building on his experience of making dentures. That training helped prepare him to provide patient care within his professional scope as well as laboratory work.
Simon’s GDC registration number is 117579. You can view his entry on the GDC register.
That change in training marked an important step: combining the skills used to make dentures with the knowledge needed to care for the person wearing them. Our guide to Clinical Dental Technicians explains what that means for patients.

Creating our clinic in Poulton

The next chapter was Cotswold Denture Clinic in Poulton, launched in 2025. These photographs show the work that went into preparing the space, from the unfinished rooms to the blue reception desk and welcoming waiting area.

Simon was hands-on with the preparations, too. Below, he is working on the curved wooden reception counter. The finished room combines warm wood, comfortable seating and the clinic’s familiar blue.

Today, this is where we welcome patients for personal denture care in a peaceful setting. There is free on-site parking, and time during your appointment to talk through your questions.
Choosing your denture care
Why choose a Clinical Dental Technician for your dentures?
A Clinical Dental Technician combines experience of making dentures with training in caring for the people who wear them. With Simon, you can discuss your dentures directly with someone who understands their design, fit and manufacture, supported by our own laboratory team.
A dentist looks after your wider oral health and can also provide dentures. NHS and private describe how care is funded; a CDT describes a professional role. The benefit of seeing Simon is his focus on denture care, with appointments to discuss the fit, appearance and options that suit you. Our guide to Clinical Dental Technicians explains more.

Will I understand what happens next?
Yes. Simon will explain your options and the next steps in plain language. You do not need to understand the technical details of making dentures. He can use a model to show what he means, answer your questions and check that you feel comfortable with the plan before treatment begins.
Knowing what to expect can help put your mind at ease. If you would like to read a little beforehand, our guide to how partial dentures stay in place is a helpful starting point.
Our own laboratory supports the design and manufacture of your dentures. Acrylic dentures are made using the Ivoclar IvoBase injection system; chrome cobalt frameworks can provide a strong, slim option for suitable partial dentures. Simon will explain the different denture options and discuss which may suit your needs. You can also explore the pricing page before you visit.

Care that continues after fitting
Getting used to new dentures takes time, and small changes can sometimes help with comfort. Read why denture adjustments can make a difference, or arrange a Denture MOT if an older denture has started to feel different.
If something breaks, contact us about denture repairs before travelling so we can confirm availability and advise you.
What if I still have some of my own teeth?
Simon will explain whether you need a dentist’s assessment or prescription before your denture treatment. If any teeth need removing, a dentist carries out that treatment. We can help you understand the order of appointments, so you know where to start. Read our simple guide to denture prescriptions.
